6/12/2007: GIZA ARCHIVES PROJECT HOSTS U.S. STATE DEPARTMENT'S VISITOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Dr. Gabriel Alegbeleye, Professor of Library and Information Science at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, visited the U.S. under the auspices Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. While in Boston he learned how American archivists are utilizing new technologies to preserve and conserve documents. His goals included exploration of micrographic planning, which includes microfilm processing and duplication; to better understand digital project planning, including scanning; to learn more about quality assurance in the area of digitization and microfilming processing and duplication; and to learn disaster management with regards to archived documents. He was also interested in learning about U.S. policies for handling digital artifacts for long-term preservation.
Dr. Alegbeleye met with MFA Conservation and Collections Management staff at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston on June 12, 2007. Giza Archives Project Archivist C.M. Pate introduced Dr. Alegbeleye to the many phases of processing Giza archaeological materials for posting on its website, www.mfa.org/giza
